Who we are
About NAMI Tuscaloosa
NAMI Tuscaloosa is the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization. We are committed to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness in the Tuscaloosa area through education, support, and advocacy.
Our organization is made up of dedicated volunteers—many with lived experience—who believe that no one should face mental health challenges alone. We offer free support groups, educational programs, outreach efforts, and community events aimed at raising awareness and reducing stigma around mental illness.
We currently hold our Education, Family Support, and Connections Meetings on the second Monday of each month at Christ Episcopal Church in Tuscaloosa. These meetings are open to anyone seeking community, connection, and resources for navigating mental health. The evening begins at 6:00 p.m. with an educational program, followed at 7:00 p.m. by two concurrent support groups: Family Support, which is designed for family members, partners, and friends of someone living with a mental health condition, and Connections, which is a peer-led group for individuals living with a mental health condition.
In addition, NAMI Tuscaloosa also offers Connections Support Group every Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m., except for the second Tuesday of each month. This group is held online via Zoom.
At NAMI Tuscaloosa, we foster connection, compassion, and hope. Whether you're living with a mental health condition, supporting a loved one, or simply want to learn more, we’re here for you. Together, we are working to create a community where mental health is prioritized and everyone feels supported.
